Major EDA leaders selected to give DesignCon keynote addresses

DesignCon 2005 has finalized its lineup of keynote speakers, a trio that will add to the conference’s tradition of delivering key insights to its audience of electronic-design and semiconductor engineers.

The DesignCon 2005 keynoters are:

  • Michael Fister, president and chief executive officer of Cadence Design Systems, Inc.
  • Aart de Geus, chairman and chief executive officer of Synopsys
  • Walden (Wally) Rhines, chief executive officer and chairman of the board of directors of Mentor Graphics
DesignCon, the industry’s premier educational conference, will take place January 31 – February 3, 2005, at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, Calif. The International Engineering Consortium (IEC) presents and designs the educational content of the program in conjunction with the industry. The conference is officially sponsored by Agilent Technologies.

“We are looking forward to hearing the insights of these industry leaders during the three days of keynote speeches,” IEC Senior Director John Janowiak said. “The DesignCon keynote addresses are important events because they invariably sum up the mood of the industry and offer essential viewpoints about where the industry is headed.”

This year’s speakers draw on varied backgrounds in both hands-on electronic design and senior management.

Prior to joining Cadence, Fister spent 17 years at Intel, where he managed in the enterprise platforms and performance microprocessors areas. De Geus, chairman of the Silicon Valley Manufacturers Group, co-founded Synopsys in 1986 and has led it from a start-up to an EDA leader. Rhines, in addition to his Mentor Graphics experience, served as executive vice president of the Texas Instruments’ Semiconductor Group.

Registration is ongoing for the conference, which features more than a dozen panels and the presentation of 40 technical papers designed to help electronic-design and semiconductor engineers meet their most pressing technical challenges. The conference is supplemented by a technology exhibition featuring more than 100 companies.

The presenter of DesignCon, the IEC (www.iec.org), is a non-profit organization dedicated to catalyzing positive growth in several industries and their university communities. Since 1944, the IEC, which is headquartered in Chicago, Ill., has provided high-quality educational opportunities for industry professionals, academics, and students. The IEC also handles the affairs of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department Heads Associations and Eta Kappa Nu, the honor society for electrical and computer engineers.
